I have decided to do a documentary about how guitars are such a big part of peoples lives and why they've been adopted as the 'cool' instrument. I would really like this to be an expository documentary and I would like a few 'talking head' interviews as I believe this would be the most relevant one to use for my 3 minute wonder. I think it would be very much a special interest documentary as not everyone is interested in it. I have the idea that it would be aimed towards the teenage to young adult audience as this is the age that is most likely to think the same as me.
The aim of the documentary would be that of I would want people to know why the guitar has become such a big part of modern and why. I would only really need to film in a place that is quite plain isn't too bright. Hopefully I won't have to travel anywhere apart from going to college as I hope to film it outside and down in the studio as this would be appropriate for my video. And I might have to film at home as well depending on who I want in my video.
Hopefully I will be able to film this by myself as it shouldn't be too taxing. I have contacted my favorite artist Newton Faulkner to see if he would be willing to be part of this documentary as he is a professional guitarist so I thought he was well suited for this. If a can't get hold of him then I will use my friends who also play guitar for the video. This may also help to engage a younger audience if they see people their age playing it.
How long have you played for?
Why did you decide to learn?
Why do you think the guitar has been adopted as the 'cool' instrument to play?
What makes people want to learn?
I shouldn't need any costumes but the only props I'll need will be guitars as I will be including some footage of people playing, so as to make the video enjoyable instead of just sitting and watching an interview. Hopefully I will be able to record some footage down in the college's studio. I already have everything I need apart from the equipment I will be recording with. I won't have a budget as I wont be needing to buy anything for my production.
Update - after discussing with my teacher
need a lot of people for intercutting in the video and overlaying their interviews. eg why is the guitar cooler than other instruments - take the best bits from lots of interviews and visually the more guitars the better. secondary evidence on the guitar in youth culture.
