Faceless pitch and presentation

Faceless

What is it about?
Faceless is a short movie about an unusual murder in a school in which the local police department has to call in the help of the freelance detective. Jacob Locke is the detective in question, he is young, extravagant and really doesn’t like being behind/ out of the loop. He is very passionate about his work but at the same time, he is very difficult to work with as he likes doing things his own way. When he finally gets the job of investigating this murder he becomes stuck when he finds out that the killer is not one person but an entire organisation, this sets off a list of questions that he finds very difficult to answer and because of how he reacts to not knowing things, he finds it hard to work a solve this puzzle. He finds out after a lot of digging and looking at sources that these people target young people, specifically ones who don’t have any friends, family that doesn’t like them etc. The story folds out with Detective Locke finding one of the members of the Faceless organisation and interrogates him on what the organisation wants. It ends on a sort of cliff hanger in which the rest of the members of faceless are watching Locke through CCTV.

Characters

Detective Locke/James McAvoy- is a freelance detective who is hired by the local police department to solve a murder. He is very arrogant and thinks he knows everything, he was raised by a very wealthy family and has been in the detective business since he left school.  He is very upper class which means the police force aren’t very happy with working with him as he tends to be very picky with how things are done.
I chose James McAvoy as the actor as he is perfect for the role because he has played roles in this area before such as Welcome to the Punch, Filth and Wanted so I felt that as he is experienced in this area of acting would be well suited to the role in hand.

Captain Anderson/Ewan Mcgregor- Proud Captain of the police department, very suspicious of anyone who is new/ freelance or anyone he is interrogating. He is very experienced and knowledgeable in his area of expertise. I chose Ewan McGregor for this role as he has played many different roles and the one most suited to this would be in the Star Wars prequels as he plays a very loyal character and is a very good teacher/ mentor.

Faceless agent/Mark Strong- Hell-bent on breaking detectives to bring down resistance to crime. We aren’t really told much about him but we know that he is heartless and doesn’t care much for anyone apart from himself and the organisation. I chose Mark Strong for this role as he is a classic ‘bad guy’ as he has played roles such as Lord Blackwood in Sherlock Holmes, he would be perfect for this role because of this.

I took my inspiration from films such as Sherlock Holmes, The Sweeney and The Godfather. Each for different aspects, I took the detective part from Sherlock Holmes as I wanted an eccentric detective who works by their own rules. The Sweeney for the police department, as I wanted to have a very down to earth police force who weren’t shown to be perfect people and finally The Godfather as the I wanted to find the right kind of crime family to use for this story and what better one to base mine of than The Godfather.

The demographic for this film I would hope would be between the ages of 18-30 as I want to aim a crime film at a younger audience so that people that age would maybe get into crime films. I would imagine that this would be of interest to both a male and female audience as I would try and make it interesting for both. I would also make sure that the subjects in the film would be relevant to the appropriate audience so that the audience enjoys and understands it.
